Tartans Thrive Update: St. Margaret’s Commons Progress and Student Learning!
Work continues on the St. Margaret’s Commons, and it’s been exciting to see how fast the construction is progressing!
The Commons, a 30,000-square-foot building which will serve as the new heart of the campus and serve all Tartans in their nutrition, fitness, well-being and community, is on schedule to be completed before the start of the 2026-2027 school year. In recent weeks, a number of tasks were completed, including:
Framing of the roof has taken place, with much of the roof now covered with decking.
Subfloor has been installed on both levels.
Framing for both interior and exterior walls is underway.
Internal and external stairways have been installed.
It has been a lot of work during the first semester of the school year! See below for a fun time-lapse of all the progress that has been made since the summer.
Student Learning at the Construction Site
This week, grade 4 students met with the architects and general contractors of the St. Margaret’s Commons for a fun on-site lesson.
The lesson touched on three aspects related to the grade 4’s global goals focus on sustainable cities and communities. In 15-minute rotations, the grade 4 students gained valuable insight from experts on the topics of sustainability, electric circuits, and community considerations. One rotation involved putting on hard hats and safety vests and stepping into the construction site for a tour.
St. Margaret’s students have used the St. Margaret’s Commons as a learning touchpoint this fall, including a recent lesson involving Upper School engineering students visiting the site to learn about engineering principles.
